Rebuild or regrout?

This is the first question we answer on every bathroom estimate, because the honest answer saves most people money. If your shower tile is sound and only the grout is cracked, stained or moldy, regrouting brings it back for a fraction of the cost and in one day.

A rebuild is the right call when:

  • Tiles are loose, hollow or cracked
  • The wall behind the tile feels soft or spongy
  • The shower pan leaks or the floor tile has shifted
  • The tile is simply dated and you want a new look

We will tell you which it is. We have been doing both in Palm Beach County since 2002.

What a shower rebuild involves

StageWhat happensWhy it matters
DemolitionOld tile and backer removed and hauled awayLets us see and fix what is behind the wall
WaterproofingWalls and pan sealed with a waterproofing systemThe step that prevents leaks and mold later
LayoutTile centered and planned so cuts land evenlyLooks intentional instead of rushed
SettingTile set in full coverage, niches and benches built inDurability and no hollow spots
Grout and caulkGrout cured, corners caulked, optional color sealClean lines that stay clean

Most showers take about a week from demolition to first use.

Tub-to-shower conversions

Many of our bathroom projects start with a tub nobody uses. We remove it, build and waterproof a new shower pan, add a niche and a bench if you want them, and tile the walls and floor. Walk-in showers are easier to get in and out of, easier to clean, and make a small bathroom feel larger.

Choosing tile for a bathroom

  • Porcelain is dense, nearly non-porous and the best choice for shower walls and floors.
  • Ceramic is less expensive and works well on walls and in lower-traffic bathrooms.
  • Glass and mosaic make great niches, borders and accent walls, and mosaic sheets give a shower floor the grip it needs.
  • Natural stone looks beautiful but is porous and needs sealing. We will explain the maintenance before you choose it.

Not sure? We have installed every one of these in Palm Beach County bathrooms and can show you what has held up.

After the tile is in

New grout is porous. Color sealing it right away keeps shower grout white and mildew-free and carries our 10-year guarantee. It is the cheapest time to do it, before anything has stained.

How the work happens

  1. Free estimate

We measure, talk through tile choices and layout, and check whether the shower really needs a rebuild or just a regrout.

  2. Demolition

Old tile and backer are removed and hauled away. The area is protected and cleaned daily.

  3. Waterproofing

Walls and the shower pan are waterproofed before any tile goes on. This is the step that keeps a shower from leaking later.

  4. Tile installation

Tile is set with full coverage, niches and benches are built in, and layout is centered so cuts are even.

  5. Grout, caulk and seal

Grout is applied and cured, corners are caulked, and we recommend color sealing the grout so it stays white.

How much does bath and shower cost in Palm Beach County?

Shower and bathroom tile projects are quoted after a free in-home measurement. The tile you choose, the size of the shower, and extras like niches, benches and tub conversions set the price. We give you a written quote with no add-ons once the work begins.

Get your price

What moves the price

  • Size of the shower or bathroom
  • Tile material and size, since large-format and natural stone take more labor
  • Tub-to-shower conversion versus retiling an existing shower
  • Niches, benches, borders and accent walls
  • Condition of what is behind the old tile

Is bath and shower the right fix for your floor?

A good fit when

  • Showers with loose, cracked or dated tile
  • Tubs you want to convert to a walk-in shower
  • Bathroom floors and walls as part of a refresh
  • Older Palm Beach County bathrooms with original tile that has reached the end of its life

Probably not the right service when

  • Showers where the tile is sound and only the grout is cracked or moldy. That is a regrouting job and we will say so.
  • Full bathroom remodels involving moving plumbing walls, which need a general contractor. We are happy to do the tile portion.
  • Tile over tile. We do not recommend it in wet areas.

Bath & Shower questions

Does my shower need to be retiled, or can it be regrouted?

If the tile is firmly attached and not cracked, regrouting is usually enough and costs far less. If tiles are loose, the wall behind them is soft, or the pan is leaking, it needs a rebuild. We check during the free estimate and tell you honestly.

How long does a shower retile take?

About a week from demolition to being able to use the shower, depending on size and tile. Grout needs to cure before the shower is used.

Can you convert my tub to a walk-in shower?

Yes. Tub-to-shower conversions are one of our most common bathroom projects. We remove the tub, build and waterproof a new pan, and tile the walls and floor.

Do you do the plumbing too?

We handle the tile, waterproofing and pan. If valves or drains need to move, we coordinate with a plumber or work with yours.

What tile is best for a shower?

Porcelain is the most durable and least porous, which makes it ideal for wet areas. Glass and mosaic work well for accents and niches. Natural stone is beautiful but needs sealing and more care.

Should shower grout be sealed?

Yes. Color-sealed grout blocks the moisture that feeds mildew and keeps the lines white. We recommend it on every new shower and it carries our 10-year guarantee.

Does my shower need to be retiled or just regrouted?

If the tile is firmly attached and not cracked, regrouting fixes cracked, missing or moldy grout for a fraction of a rebuild. If tiles are loose, the wall is soft or the pan leaks, it needs to be rebuilt. We check and tell you honestly during the free estimate.
